How to Set Up A Marketing Strategy to Sell Your eBook - Selecting A Channel

Without readers, your eBook will fail. It doesn't matter if you sell it on Kindle, your own website or your favourite corner. A book without a reader -- and that includes eBooks -- is meaningless. The question is how do you get readers? What do you need to do to ensure that people find and buy your eBook?

The answer is marketing.

Marketing is the process by which you find your customer, get in front of them, attract their attention and then present your product. It includes sales and in many ways, it includes how you will deliver the eBook. And it begins before you write our book.

Yes, you heard me right. Marketing your book begins before you write a word. In fact, it begins before you even plan your book.

The whole point of marketing is to sell your eBook or book. Or for that matter, any other related product. It describes how you will make a profit and what the products will be about.

So how do you do it?

Well as I've mentioned it begins long before you write your eBook. Arguably, it begins within the determination of the company strategy. More specifically, it needs you to determine your market or micro-market, your business model, your reader and identify your problem and solution. However, for the purposes of this article I'm going to assign those tasks to company strategy development and instead focus on those tasks that are unique to marketing.

As part of the process of identifying your reader, you will have determined how to gain their attention. Basically, you are asking, "Where are they hanging out?" Typically, these are forums, blogs and magazine sites. YouTube and Google are also two key locations that most readers will visit regularly. However, don't ignore your competition and others who deal with these same customers.

Your job now is twofold. First, you need to determine which of these opportunities you will use in order to gain your readers' attention. While it would be nice to be everywhere your reader is, practicality says you need to choose only a few. After all, you only have a few hours per day. And being on forums and blogs all day is probably not a good use of your time.

The second task is to select the marketing methods you will use. Each of these opportunities or channels has several methods you can use to market through them. For example, article marketing, search engine optimization (SEO) and Google AdWords are three alternatives you can use if you select the Google channel. Of course, not all the methods will be useable. For example, reading and responding to blog posts is a method for addressing the blog channel. However, so is spamming blogs. It isn't very effective and it will soon result in your being banned. But it is a method.

Why There Is a Need for Creating Information Products

Information will always be in demand. People are always asking, "How can I do xyz?". This fact is why I love creating information products. I know there's a demand and frankly, it's just so rewarding when someone benefits from my instruction. In this article I'll provide you with three reasons why there will always be a need to create information products such as ebooks.

Reason 1 - Free, Readily Available Information May Not Be Trustworthy Truth is, there is so much information online in virtually every area. It's important to note however, that much, if not most of the information, is not trustworthy. Much of it is based on mere opinion.

Creators of information products have (or should have) conducted thorough research on the topics they're teaching. Along with the research, they should personally test their instruction to ensure credibility.

Reason 2 - People Would Rather Pay for Information Compiled for Them This, in my opinion, is the most powerful selling point of information products. Much of the information online is segmented and probably always will be. When you go to a community-driven website, you may find a handful of questions being asked on a specific topic. Most people who want to learn about a specific topic will need more than a few answers to questions they find on some website. They want to know all the ordered steps necessary to do something. Therefore, people are willing to pay for this packaged information instead of spending hours trying to join together bits and pieces of information to learn everything.

Reason 3 - People Need a Solution to Their Problem Now As a whole, we are more impatient now than ever before. This is primarily due to the fact that most everything in our lives is readily available. Fast service is a huge selling point for advertising. When we want something or want information on how to do something, we don't want it two days from now. We want it now. This is another reason why information products will always be in demand. They are available instantly.

In conclusion, if you have information in your head that people need, why not make it available to them. There isn't a better time than the present to create your own information product such as an ebook. Hopefully, this article has enlightened you to the fact that there is and always will be a demand for quality, factual, complete information.

Writing Ebooks - How to Choose a Topic for Your Next Ebook

One of the biggest problems that any non-fiction writer has is to choose a topic for their next eBook. How can you do it and be sure that your reader will want to read it? After all, if your reader is not interested in the topic they are never going to pick up your book to read it. Literally, pick it up in the case of a printed book and theoretically, in the case of an eBook.

It may seem like an insurmountable problem but it really isn't.

The solution is to create a marketing plan for your eBook. Part of that plan will include choosing the topic for your book. There are four main methods you can use to ensure that your book is well received. Each is used for a different purpose and under different conditions.

The first method is used when you are first starting to build an eBook business. It is sometimes referred to erroneously as choosing your niche. However, it is really a matter of mixing niche marketing and micro marketing. It begins by micro-marketing. In other words, you choose a market or product that you wish to write in. Then you begin to compress that market until you have a small topic that you will address. For example, you might choose to sell into the money market and eventually pick a micro-market of building an information marketing business. In internet marketing, this is typically accompanied by identifying a niche or target customer. You then identify a problem your target customer might have and a solution to that problem. This solution becomes your topic.

The next method occurs when you've begun to build your business but you're customer list is still quite small. In this case, you can examine your solution and then determine the next place your customer will have a problem. This becomes your next topic. This method works well if you know your topic well or better still know your target customer. However, it is always possible that you will guess wrong. Your customers may not experience the problem in the same place as you predict. In that case, your customers won't be interested in reading your eBook. You'll have failed.

The third customer based method is to simply ask your customers where they are having problems. What is it that is preventing them from progressing? The solution to that problem becomes the topic for your next eBook or course. This works best if you have a large number of customers and if it is built into your email marketing campaign.

The fourth method is used when you are not building a business using eBooks. Rather it is used when you are building a business out of writing eBooks. These eBooks are typically being sold for the Kindle or iPad platforms using Amazon or the iBookstore. They tend to be independent and your focus is less focused on relationships with your customers. In fact, it's simply an internet version of the traditional book selling industry. In that case, you don't have customers. To make up for that fact, you can use Google to identify potential keywords or questions that your readers will be looking for answers to.

Creating An E-Book Cover - How To Get Your Professional E-Book Cover Designed For Only $5 At Fiverr

A colorful, professional e-book cover will help your new e-book stand out from the competition in the Amazon Kindle E-Book Store. When your e-book stands out, you sell more e-books. When you sell more e-books, you are very happy.

So if you want to be happy, don't skimp on a good e-book cover. Even if you have zero skills designing anything, for as little as $5 you can hire a professional designer on Fiverr to supply you with an e-book cover that will boost your sales quickly.

Fiverr.com is a very popular "micro-job" website featuring gigs encompassing a whole host of services -- writing, reviews, advertising, video, sending Twitter announcements -- but most importantly for you, there are skilled, qualified art designers who are a whiz at cranking out good looking e-book covers. All gigs are for sale for just $5. It's a bargain.

People selling their services on Fiverr -- or offering "gigs" -- briefly tell what they will do for the standard $5 fee. Most explain their offer in less than 50 words. They state what they'll do, how quickly they'll do it, and most add phrases like, "Will make changes to make you happy."

Some have accumulated enough positive reviews that Fiverr allows them to post "Related Gigs" -- these are add-ons or additional related services they can provide you, sometimes for $10 or $20.

If you've ever gotten frustrated dealing with a graphic designer who thinks you're wrong and they're always right, you'll appreciate this.

To hire one of these designers, create a free account at Fiverr.com.

Type "eBook covers" into the search box at the top of the page.

Sort the results by "Ratings." This will give you highly-recommended graphic artists listings. The good ones will prominently display their past work for your review.

Read through the reviews. Stay away from those who have lots of negative reviews.

It's not a bad idea to try someone just starting out. You'll be helping a fellow internet marketer get a foothold and build their portfolio, and you'll only be risking $5 if the project doesn't live up to your expectations. I'm betting, though, that you'll be satisfied.

Pick the "Gig" you like. You can send an email clarifying what work they will, won't or can't do. Once you're certain that you've found a good match, you can "Buy" the gig. You'll be directed to a PayPal checkout page to submit your $5 payment direct to Fiverr. They hold it in an account, and when the gig is completed, the graphic artist gets paid $4. Fiverr keeps $1 of the transaction.

Many of the good graphic artists will request information from you like:

What message are you trying to convey? Who is the target market? Do you want graphics included, or just words typeset on the cover?

You can send in a rough layout of your own. I'd recommend just letting their imagination take over. You can always request minor changes -- center this, change color of that -- although I wouldn't recommend making major changes to wording or switch from simple lettering only to full-blown graphics design at this point.

The e-book cover image is then posted to your Fiverr account dialogue page often that same day -- allowing you easy access to download it and then upload to the website where your e-book is being sold. Just be aware that Fiverr actively discourages direct communications between buyers and sellers, probably to prevent them circumventing the Fiverr system. Accounts can be closed for violations of the website's terms.

Time is money, and spending just 10 minutes finding and hiring a professional graphic arts designer for only $5 on Fiverr is a good way for you to keep more of both!

Overcoming Procrastination to Write an Ebook

If you've only written articles, writing an eBook may appear to be a daunting task. Writing the eBook may seem like an insurmountable task. Before starting to write you find all sorts of distractions instead of writing.

Research is a common way to procrastinate; you convince yourself that you are being productive with your work on the ebook. You tell yourself that you must be very knowledgeable before you can start writing. Despite all of this denial, you probably really do know that you are procrastinating.

Writing an eBook is no different from writing anything else.

The following is a process for writing an ebook:

- Come up with a theme or focus for your ebook. This topic is very significant because it's what you are teaching the reader.

- Write down ten working titles. A working title is a title that could possibly be used for your ebook. It has to capture the theme. It's important to come up with ten because the title you choose is the first step of your ebook.

- Write an outline, even if you despise doing so.

- Write one chapter every day the same way you would write an article every day.

- Revise your ebook.

- Make the revised eBook into a final draft.

- Format the eBook to make the appearance appealing and save to a PDF file.

- You are all finished!

Outlines are Very Helpful

Writers can be divided into two groups: people that outline before writing, and people who don't. If you're not someone who outlines now, it's important for you to start. Eventually you will realize that to work quickly to meet deadlines and outline is a necessity. Also, your writing will improve greatly when you start outlining.

All that and outline is, is a list. You should definitely outline your eBook so it doesn't change too much while you are writing it. It will be difficult to complete without an outline because the general focus will constantly change.

Start out with just a list of the chapter in your ebook. See each chapter as an individual article that revolves around a central idea. Even if you are pressed for time you can still get a chapter done each day.

Break Each Chapter into Parts

If your eBook still seems intimidating after making a list of chapters, try to write each chapter one paragraph a time. A method of doing this is to write fifty words as soon as you turn your computer on. This shouldn't be too challenging for anyone. After a while you will probably find this method slow and you will speed up. The words will come to you more easily and the eBook will be completed more quickly.

Now you can write an Ebook!

People can make a lot of money writing ebooks, whether it's for people, or as a source of income. The main obstacle when writing is getting overwhelmed and having trouble completing it. By now you should have a good idea on how to write an ebook.

The Power Of An E-Book

Writing an e-book is an ideal way of reaching out to your customers and passing on your knowledge and experience. It is important to determine what type of information your readers actually want, so it essential you plan your topics carefully. People are always striving to find solutions to their problems and they are keen to read from an author who is knowledgeable and experienced in their field. You will soon build up a reputation for being a trustworthy and reliable writer. But it can be tricky knowing just where to start!

You may decide just to dip your toe in the water as you begin writing. This is an ideal way to begin, writing for example a short 15-20 page report or e-book including some graphics. Although you may feel this is rather short, you will find that people are willing to purchase your product provided it is interesting and informative. Success on such projects will inject you with enthusiasm for developing further.

Something to consider carefully is to write a series of books. By doing this, you can promote each module / volume separately yet with one leading naturally to another. Have some sort of membership subscription set up where your readers can sign up for the series, receiving them monthly perhaps. You may want to offer a discount for this or include a free report or e-book. People like to know they are getting value for money.

Planning is crucial and time spent on this is valuable. Organise your notes into Topics, headings and sub-headings, jotting down keywords or phrases alongside. This will ensure a smooth and natural progression. Do not complete your planning at one sitting. Aim to plan over a number of days so that fresh ideas can be added as they come to mind.

There are a number of ways to promote your products. You may want to set up a website and find ways of getting visitors to that site. Targeted visitors such as people who you know are interested in your particular niche can be found on Blogs / Forums - once you have their interest they can then be directed to your site. It is best to have an opt-in page where you can gather their contact details. This then allows you to contact them at a later date with further products and offers. Offering a free chapter of a new book can often intrigue the reader enough to visit your site to buy.

There is lots of advice available on the internet regarding how best to promote your site as this seems to be an ever-changing enigma. Do your own research, learn from others and follow expert advice.

I hope this article has been of interest to you. I wish you success in your writing.

How to Write a Successful eBook - Part I

I've chosen an unusual title for this article. It's a title that is somewhat subjective since the definition of success is not the same for everyone. In this article I will explain why there really only should be one primary definition for success for the aspiring eBook author. I'll also provide helpful information about choosing a niche.

To answer the question posed in this title, I will provide a couple actions in this article. Okay, lets dive in.

Determine that your definition of success will be to help others. If your only goal for writing eBooks is to make money then you will probably fail. Most markets are just too competitive. You may make a few sales here and there with this mindset, but it won't change your life. On the other hand, if you truly desire to add value to others by providing information via your eBook that will solve their problem, relieve their pain or help them get unstuck, then you can probably sell your eBook even in competitive niches.

How do you determine to change lives with your eBook? By making the content as valuable as possible and by connecting with your prospects through relationships and accessibility. The benefit of having this mindset tremendous. People will trust you and will be more likely to buy from you.

Decide on a topic (niche). What do you want to write about? Is there a topic in which you are an expert? Perhaps you are currently a professional (e.g., doctor, counselor, trainer, etc.) and you want to help more people by packaging your knowledge in an eBook.

Perhaps you don't have knowledge in a particular area that can be used for an eBook. If this is the case, then you'll need to get an education in a particular area first. This isn't as hard as it seems. It's not like you'll need a four-year degree to learn enough information to write an eBook. Actually, you could find four or five good books on a specific topic, study them and use this newly acquired knowledge to create your eBook. Just make sure that you're learning about a topic in which a demand already exists.

Hopefully this information has helped you understand the initial steps required to write a successful eBook. If you desire to use your knowledge for the purpose of truly helping others, then writing an eBook is a fantastic way to accomplish this goal.

eBooks Future

It happened that I did a favor to my colleague, and brought back from the USA two eBook reader devices. One for my colleague's wife, and the second one for his daughter.

Specifically, it was Amazon's kindle best seller. This was not the first Kindle eBook reader he purchased. He already had one for himself, and another one for his dad. My colleague justified buying this large number of units by stating that since the day he bought the device, he started to read books again, and with great pleasure.

So, some people may relate to the eBook reader as another electronic gadget, to play with, while others really do enjoy it, and exploit the inventory of eBooks on the network.

eBooks and eBook reader devices do change the reading experience in many aspects. So it is not Amazon's Kindle itself, that made the change for my colleague, rather it is the existence of eBook's and reader devices. One may argue that other electronic readers, with larger screen, and with color image, are better than Kindle. Might be that some professionals reviews of such devices may try to compare between the various vendors? But, for me, the electronic readers represent a revolution, regardless the various differences between them.

Why is this revolution?

First, no need for large physical storage for all the books you buy. And if you do not use to buy paper books, rather you loan them for a short period of time from a public library, the eBook industry saves you the time of going to your local library and searching for your required book. Instead, by a click on the keyboard, you can search online for your book, and purchase it instantly.

Not only savings of shelves at your home, but also savings of large buildings will be achieved eventually, when the electronic readers and eBooks will prevail.

Now, think also about the saving of paper. The Green trend in the world should adopt the e-reader devices, as it presents a major aspect toward a greener world, with no need to cut all those trees in the Amazon. This goes along with the new notation used lately, the paperless society. This relates to trend of abandoning paper records of photos by using electronic albums, cloud storage services, and emails.

So, I would say that eBook industry will flourish in the future, and eventually this industry will cut a large share from the paper based books.

What Is PLR and How Should You Use It For Ebook Creation?

What is PLR and what can you do with it? How can it help you in your IM business or with eBook creation?

PLR, also known as Private Label Rights, are rights that are assigned or given by the owner/creator of a product to the purchaser of the product. These rights are clearly defined by the creator but can include the right to change the product, keep it the same, claim authorship and resell as your own. This product is typically an ebook, but can also include video, audio and other forms of software or graphics.

Some Internet Marketers who are interested in PLR ebooks are drawn to them because they think they can purchase a PLR ebook, slap their name on it and be seen as an expert in that field. With this method they don't really have to do the work that is involved with creating a product. This may seem like a great way to monetize your business quickly, but down the road it could damage your credibility and ultimately your business.

I personally know one Internet Marketer in particular that did this because I bought one of his products on article marketing. It didn't take long to realize not only had I already purchased the exact same ebook, word for word, from the original author, and I had the PLR rights to it as well.

I was promoting and selling it with the original author's name on it. This book went into a lot of detail about how the original author got started in IM, how much money he was making in the beginning, how many articles he was writing every month and so on. So the second guy was basically masquerading as a double for the original author. He lost my trust immediately.

I didn't spend a lot of money on it but I was still aggravated. Ultimately it was a valuable learning lesson for me because it taught me what NOT to do. If you want to sell a quality information product, I think it's ethically wrong to take someone else's product and just put your name on it. It's just downright misleading. It may be legal but I don't think it's a good idea.

A lot of Internet Marketers buy PLR products for other reasons. Many of them use them for researching whatever niche they want to become an expert at. They like buying the ebooks with PLR rights because if they decide to write an eBook along a similar theme they can use the PLR book as a guide to writing their own. If the PLR content is high quality (and many times it is if you look hard enough) it will be very useful for this purpose. Some also do very well promoting other marketers' PLR products. They may be working as an affiliate or directly selling the product (without making changes) and keeping 100% commissions.

Here's where I think PLR products can be useful. If you buy a quality information product from someone and that product comes with PLR rights, I think you can use it as a guideline for creating your own product. Use parts of it, but add to it. Put it in your own words with your own unique spin on it. But please do not put your name on someone else's product without adding any of your own originality to it. You will lose credibility in the long run.

Another great use for PLR products is as a giveaway. When you are trying to attract subscribers to build a list, find a great PLR eBook with quality content and use that to give away in exchange for a name and email address. Then you can email that person regularly and promote your own information products to them.

I am currently working on an original eBook myself that is a guide for proper eBook creation. In it I discuss how using free PLR content and PLR ebooks can be very useful during your research process. I recommend gathering up as much PLR as you can for educational purposes. Through my methods you will use PLR products as a guide, but not as an exclusive tool for writing your own ebook.

How to Know If I Should Write an Ebook

Do you want to write an ebook, but aren't sure if it's it's the right thing to do? In this article I will provide you with a test to know if your eBook idea is right or not. The last thing you need to do is create an eBook if you haven't determined whether or not there's a demand for your content.

You need to ask yourself three questions. How much knowledge do I have on the topic? Are there already ebooks or physical books on the topic that are selling? Is there at least one magazine on the topic. Lets take a deeper look at these three questions.

The first question is your starting point. Lets suppose you want to write an eBook on nutrition. How much knowledge do you currently have on nutrition. Are you an expert on this topic. One way to know the answer to this question is to ask yourself this question, "Can I teach three solid hours on nutrition". If the answer is no, then perhaps you need to learn more about nutrition before you proceed to write a nutrition ebook. Now, understand there are certainly exceptions to this, so this definitely isn't a fixed rule. Some niches are less complex and don't have many steps. However, I think you get my point. You can interview experts to acquire information for your ebook, but in most cases, you need to possess substantial knowledge in your niche.

The second question is very black and white, yet so many people never think about it. If there aren't books in your niche then there's a good chance it's because there's no demand. To answer this questions, go to Amazon and look for ebooks or books closely related to the one you want to create. If you find two or three that are selling, then there's money in this niche and you may have a profitable eBook idea.

Lastly, you should be able to find at least one magazine on your niche. If not, then again, there probably isn't a demand for ebooks in this area.

Hopefully, this information has been helpful. Don't be afraid to write an ebook, just be sure to do your homework beforehand. If after following my advice in this article you determine there is no demand for ebooks in your niche, become an expert in some other area. If you really want to become an eBook author, go for it.

Writing an eBook - The 5 Most Important Tips for Newbies

So you've decided you want to have a book. Good for you. Books and eBooks are amongst the best tools for marketing. Whether you are intending to sell them to make money, or giving them away to gain customers. Books and eBooks are amongst the best tools that you can get to build your business around.

But then comes the problem.

How do you write an eBook?

There are a number of different methods for writing an eBook or writing a book. Or more correctly for getting a book. Some are good. Some are not so good. However, for this article I'm going to focus on actually writing an eBook yourself.

Writing an eBook or any long work can be difficult. And working one's way through all of the advice out there can be just as difficult. So in this article, I'm going to give the newbie writer a hand up with five of the most important tips.

1. Always start with the end in mind

Yes, I know I've just quoted Stephen Covey. But the advice applies even more to writing a book or eBook. The effort you are about to undertake will vary considerably depending on the nature of the product. Many traditional eBooks were only 20 pages in length. Or even less. And people do continue to create report-sized eBooks despite the influx of longer Book-length versions. What you are going to use the book for will greatly affect the size and style of the book or eBook. It also affects how much, if anything, you are going to charge. Which in turn also has an effect on the size. Even the format (print or electronic) will be affected by what you are going to do with the book.

2. Always write with a system

Writing is a process. And like any other process, there are two major ways to do it. The successful way and the unsuccessful way. Writing a book length piece -- regardless of its form -- is not a trivial exercise. It's not like writing an essay or writing an article like this one. You need to follow a system based on the type of book you are writing. An attempt to just sit down and write will almost inevitably lead to failure.

3. Know your reader

Writing a book without a reader is like taking a trip without a destination. It can lead to some glorious surprises -- but more likely to a sad conclusion. There is no point in writing an eBook that no one will read. But to be read, a book needs to interest the reader. It needs to draw them into it. To accomplish that, a writer must know before they start what will interest the reader. And then they must write that book. Not the one they started to write.

4. Have a writer's hole.

Every writer has a set of conditions that help him create. Every writer has a set of conditions that prevent her creating. Most writers have multiple sets depending on the task. You need to have a place for each of the tasks in the process. It's easiest if they are all the same place, but they key is that you need to be able to start immediately without any inherent delays.

5. Have a set schedule

Motivation is probably the biggest issue that a writer has. With motivation, they will overcome anything in their quest of writing an eBook. However, it is a great deal easier if you have a specific chunk of time allocated for writing. Be firm. No interruptions. No disturbances. No intrusions. This is your writing time and you need to produce.
